Water Notices & Advisories

The Cariboo Regional District’s water systems are tested regularly to ensure they meet public health regulations. When contamination of a water system is identified, the CRD issues a Boil Water Notice pursuant to a request from the Drinking Water Officer under Section 14 of the Drinking Water Protection Act. Boil Water Notices remain in effect unless and until another public notice is issued upon the request of a Drinking Water Officer advising that the Notice has been amended or may be rescinded.

After a Boil Water Notice is issued, the CRD works with the local Health Authority to investigate the contamination. Typically, in order to lift a Boil Water Notice, the water system has to be without contamination for two consecutive days, unless the Health Authority has other conditions that must be met. If your Water System is on a Boil Water Notice, you should use hand sanitizer after washing your hands and boil water for a minimum of one minute before:

  • Drinking (or use an alternate, safe source of water)
  • Cooking (if not boiled)
  • Brushing teeth
  • Washing dishes
  • Washing fruits & vegetables to be eaten raw
  • Watering animals

The documents on the right hand side of this page provide further information on what to do during a Boil Water Notice. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the CRD’s Environmental Services Department.
