Anyone demolishing a building shall first ensure that any asbestos-containing materials with the potential to release fibres have been dealt with as per WorksafeBC Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations (G20.112 Hazardous materials – Asbestos). WorksafeBC provides guidance and administers oversight of asbestos remediation. Except for:
Arrangements for bulk sampling and asbestos removal can take time. Contact a consultant early in the planning process. A demolition permit will not be issued until every structure to be demolished is determined to be free of asbestos. In order to protect Cariboo Regional District Workers from these hazards and ensure compliance by building owners or their prime contractors, all parties must follow Section 119 of the Workers Compensation Act. Due to the above noted potential hazard, the Cariboo Regional District Building Official cannot carry out an inspection leading to the necessary approval process; until such time as the Owner or Prime Contractor has taken the necessary remedial steps towards hazard mitigation, and provided verification in a report. |

Requirements for Building Location Surveys:
This policy is applicable within the North, Central and South Cariboo Building Inspection Service Areas.
Setbacks to property lines shall be indicated on the survey plan for all exterior wall faces. Building Location Survey Plans derived from GPS instruments may be accepted by the building inspector for buildings located on large lots or un-surveyed lots, if the limits of accuracy of the instruments used are added to the required buffer and setback. |
