In 2018, Rocky Nenka and his partner took their first trip to the Cariboo and instantly fell in love with Barkerville, Wells and the Cariboo way of life. Priced out of the market in the Lower Mainland, they packed up and bought and renovated a 1940s mining house in the small but culturally diverse town of Wells. Originally a mining town, Wells has always been steeped arts and culture. An art school, galleries, and a theatre with live performances, cabarets and movies, line the main street and attract diverse patrons. As soon as they arrived, neighbours welcomed them to the community. Rocky’s work at Barkerville Historic town, a world class heritage site only eight minutes from his home, is always different and filled with magic. From deep discussions with heritage professionals to crisp bluebird days filled with fresh white snow, to the excitement of international tourists each spring, there is always something to look forward to.
The District of Wells is a restored 1930's mining town transformed into a premiere tourist destination with world-class entertainment, unique architecture, and fascinating galleries. Just down the road is Barkerville Historic Town, which offers a glimpse into the region's goldrush era history. Wells is also the access point to the Bowron Lakes Provincial Park, considered by many to be one of the top ten canoe circuits in the world. Located adjacent to major tourist attractions and world-class outdoor adventures, Wells has a ready market for tourism ventures and investment opportunities in the tourism sector abound. Wells is ripe for the development of attractions, services, and accommodations targeted at the area's many visitors. https://www.wells.ca/
