What is the Pathways to Preparedness Project?
Throughout 2023 the project will identify and understand the current knowledge of residents in relation to risk awareness and preparedness for floods and wildfires while also increasing individual preparation for these potential emergencies. The project will be delivered through all electoral areas of the region and will involve as many residents as possible.
Why is this program being developed?
Since 2015, the CRD has experienced several large-scale flood and wildfire emergencies. Following the 2017 wildfires, an extensive community engagement process was completed and finalized with a report which included recommendations to increase the knowledge of residents to help them understand their risks and actions they could take to mitigate impacts from emergencies.
This program will measure the current state of residents’ flood and wildfire risk and preparation awareness while also improving general preparedness through education.
When is the program going to run?
From May to November 2023, you will see a representative at events throughout the electoral areas of the CRD so that they can learn from you and send you away with information to help you prepare for emergencies.
How is the program funded?
Funding is provided by the Canadian Red Cross – 2017 BC Fires Disaster Risk Reduction Partnerships.
