The CRD provides tax information to the Surveyor of Taxes for the local government services provided within the region. Most of the items listed under "Local Services" on your annual tax bill are collected for the CRD. Exceptions include the BC Assessment Authority tax and the Municipal Finance Authority tax.
Most of our regional services are grouped together and identified under the line "Area (--) Cariboo". Regional services include administrative services, bylaw enforcement, general government, grants-in-aid, regional land use planning, rural refuse, solid waste management, and weed control. Except for library services, all taxes are collected on both the assessed value of land and buildings.
Library tax, found under the line “Area (--) Library” is the only service where tax is calculated on the assessed value of your buildings.
Where services are provided to a specified area, such as fire protection, a separate line item is shown under the “Local Services” heading.
For certain services, taxes are collected through a parcel tax. These fees are a designated amount, charged to every parcel connected, or able to connect, to the service described. You can see these charges under the “Parcel Tax” heading and the line item indicates the service.
