All evacuation orders lifted in Cariboo Regional District

For the first time since early July, no properties in the Cariboo Regional District are currently under evacuation order due to wildfires. One evacuation alert remains in place for the Moose Valley South area and includes 11 parcels. The CRD Emergency Operation centre remains open and continues to monitor the current wildfire situation.  Some neighbouring regional districts still have both orders and alerts in place at this time. CRD officials are thanking residents and property owners for the cooperation and community spirit being shown during this year’s intense wildfire season and reminding residents to remain prepared and vigilant.

“We are certainly not at the end of wildfire season and continued caution and vigilance are needed as much as ever,” notes CRD Chair Margo Wagner. “But the lifting of these evacuation orders this week was welcome news nonetheless. If we can get through to the fall without further losses in our region, I think the whole Cariboo will be breathing a big sigh of relief. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the firefighters both volunteer and paid, search and rescue, the ESS volunteers, the citizens who stepped up to help those in need, and the community as a whole; for the successes and support we have had battling wildfires in the Cariboo this summer.”

The first wildfire alert of the season was issued at the end of June. Since that time 13 evacuation orders impacting an estimated 2650 people were issued. Thirty-eight evacuation alerts have been issued to date in the region. For more information about CRD alerts and orders, or to see a timeline report of when your property was on alert or order, please visit our CRD website at cariboord.ca/wildfireupdate and use the report feature on the interactive map.

Curious about programs available to assist those impacted by wildfires as we move towards recovery?  Visit cariboord.ca/recovery for a list of resources and links, email the CRD Recovery Manager at  recovery@cariboord.ca or call our emergency information and recovery line at 1-866-759-4977 ( 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. weekdays).

We are still in fire season and it is important to be prepared, stay informed and stay safe.  For more tips on emergency preparedness and how to best protect your home or property from wildfires visit cariboord.ca/beprepared. Residents are also encourage to register for the Cariboo Chilcotin Emergency Notification System at www.cariboord.ca/CRDEmergsignup  to receive a text, call or email regarding Evacuation Alerts and Orders.
