UBCM Fire Department grant application
The Cariboo Regional District has applied for funding on behalf of its fourteen volunteer fire departments to purchase new equipment and training. Applications for up to $30,000 for each fire department will be submitted to the Union of BC Municipalities to purchase turnout gear, handheld tools, self contained breathing apparatus, and other equipment necessary for fire protection services. The funding does not include major equipment or infrastructure purchases as these are not permitted under the funding program.
Anahim Lake Airport terminal building expansion concept design
A design and contract for an expansion to the Anahim Lake airport terminal building has been approved by the board of directors. As recommended by the airport commission, Zirnhelt Timberframes is being awarded the construction contract valued at $549,710 to build the 1,000 square foot addition. This addition will add an expanded waiting area for passengers, office space for airside operations and staff, and new public washrooms. The project is being funded by the Northern Development Initiative Trust ($132,691) and the B.C. Rural Economic Diversification Investment Program ($530,765).
Emergency Management legislation regulations feedback
The board will be voicing its opinion on the new Emergency and Disaster Management Act and proposed regulations in a letter to the Provincial government. The CRD’s advocacy will profile several challenges, from the scope of legislation, the timelines involved with implementing changes, and calling for new and equitable funding from the province. The objective will be to ensure that legislation and regulations reflects strong emergency management practices and frameworks, while being attainable for all emergency management organizations to achieve.
