As a result of staff retirement within our organization, we are seeking qualified individuals to apply for a permanent, full-time Regional Utilities position. Applications are hereby invited for the full-time position of Regional Utilities Operator within the Cariboo Regional District. The incumbent must live within 30 minutes of the 108 Mile Ranch Utility building.
Summary:
Reporting directly to the Manager of Environmental Services, the Utilities Operator will operate and maintain regional water and sewer utilities. Report, collect data and maintain work logs as required by the Manager of Environmental Services. Respond to public inquiries,as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
Hold and maintain Environmental Operator Certifications for Wastewater Collection Level II, Wastewater Treatment Level 2, Water Distribution Level II and Water Treatment Level II, Small Water Systems.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in making decisions in the field and in emergency/repair situations.
A working knowledge of underground utility systems.
Ability to exercise considerable independence of judgement and action in the operation of equipment and during utilities maintenance activities.
Training and/or experience in confined space and safe work procedures.
Live within 30 minutes of the 108 Mile Utility building to facilitate standby duties.
Must have and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License, as a term of employment.
Wage: This is a BCGEU position. The current rate of pay is $40.49 per hour. A 90-day probationary period will apply. The workweek schedule may vary and therefore the applicant must be able to work weekends, rotating shifts and overtime.
Work Site Location: The successful candidate will operate out of the 108 Mile Utility building. Travel within the regional district will be required. The incumbent must live within 30 minutes of the 108 Mile Utility building.
Hours of Work: The incumbent may be required to work a non-standard schedule and unexpected overtime to respond to emergencies and participate in the on-call rotation schedule. Currently the position operates Tuesday - Friday schedule starting at 7:00 am and ending at 4:15 pm with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. The weekly schedule could develop into rotating regular scheduled shifts, which would include weekend shift work. Should the work schedule change, there will be advance notice prior to implementation. The successful incumbent will be required to be on call after hours on a rotational basis.
