The Cariboo Regional District is seeking qualified individuals to apply for the permanent, fulltime
position of Utilities Operator. The incumbent must live within 30 minutes of the 108 Mile
Utility building.
Summary:
Reporting directly to the Manager of Environmental Services, the Utilities Operator
will operate and maintain regional water and sewer utilities. Report, collect data and maintain
work logs as required by the Manager of Environmental Services. Respond to public inquiries,
as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
hold Environmental Operator Certifications for Wastewater Collection Level I, Water Distribution
Level I, and Small Water Systems certificates. Applicants may be considered that are working
towards certification; however, certification must be obtained within 18 months of hire, or the
incumbent may be terminated.
2 years’ experience in making decisions in the field and in emergency/repair situations.
A working knowledge of underground utility systems.
Ability to exercise considerable independence of judgement and action in the operation of equipment and during utilities maintenance activities.
Training and/or experience in confined space and safe work procedures.
Proficient with cell phone and computer use specifically MS Office and MS Office 365, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and MS Access an asset.
Ability to navigate online meetings using Zoom or MS Teams.
Must have and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License, as a term of employment.
Wage: This is a BCGEU position. The terms of this position include a wage of $36.92 per hour. A standard probation period will apply.
Work Site Location: The successful candidate will operate out of the 108 Mile Utility building. Travel within the regional district will be required. The incumbent must live within 30 minutes of the 108 Mile Utility building.
Hours of Work: The incumbent may be required to work a non-standard schedule and unexpected overtime to respond to emergencies. The incumbent will be required to be on call after hours on a rotational basis. Currently the position operates Tuesday - Friday schedule starting at 7:00 am and ending at 4:15 pm with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. The weekly schedule could develop into rotating shift schedules, which could include weekend shift work. Should the work schedule change, there will be advance notice prior to implementation.
