Immediate Release

UPDATE: Lac La Hache Water System Boil Water Advisory Rescinded November 4

The Cariboo Regional District is advising all residents in Lac La Hache that the Boil Water Advisory Notice Issued on October 28 for the Lac La Hache Water System has now been rescinded effective immediately.

All residents may now resume normal water use. Interior Health gave the go ahead this afternoon to lift the advisory, as the two required consecutive test results came back all clear.  The CRD would like to thank affected residents for their patience during this advisory.  If residents smell chlorine in the water, they are advised to let their taps run for a few moments and the smell should dissipate.

UPDATE:  Due to unforeseen circumstances the proposed schedule has been delayed as MOTI was unable to dig the culvert today.  We expect the work to take place now on Friday, October 28th.  Our apologies for the inconvenience – we are doing our best to get this work done in a timely manner to allow time for the required testing and get your services back to normal as soon as possible.  Thanks for your continued patience.

Service Interruption on McKinley Drive and Station Road for Culvert Replacement

The Cariboo Regional District is advising Lac La Hache Water System customers on McKinley drive and Station Road to prepare for a small service interruption to their water/sewer systems. Following this work, the CRD is required by Interior Health to put a Boil Water Advisory in place for the entire Lac La Hache Water System.

Service Interruption – OCTOBER 28th 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.

This interruption to service is required due to a culvert replacement and upgrade in the area, along with a relocation of the water/sewer infrastructure.  We expect the interruption to last from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. During this scheduled time, residents on McKinley Drive and Station Road will be unable to access any water services, including, but not limited to: sinks, toilets and showers. You are encouraged to plan to have a supply of water suitable for your needs.  Suggestions include:

  • Have a supply of bottled water or pitchers of water in your refrigerator for your drinking, cooking and other consumption needs.
  • Fill your bathtub with water so you can pour it into the tank of your toilet to flush it.

Boil Water Advisory – OCTOBER 28th until further notice

Following the culvert replacement on OCTOBER 28th, the entire Lac La Hache Water System will need to be flushed, chlorinated and tested. Once water is operational, it is suggested that residents run their taps for 3-5 min each to ensure there is no chlorine “slug” in their waterline. The system will have a chlorine residual for a few days after the flushing is complete.

Although the water will be operational at this point, a BOIL WATER ADVISORY will be in effect for ALL residents on the Lac La Hache Water System until the water quality testing is completed. The boil water advisory includes several precautionary steps for customers. These include:

  • using purchased bottled water or boiled water for drinking, brushing teeth, dishwashing, preparing food, and making ice.
  • Water should come to a roiling boil for one minute, then cool to an appropriate temperature before using.

The advisory will remain in effect until the Cariboo Regional District and Interior Health are confident the water is safe. When satisfactory results are reported from the required testing, customers will be notified that the advisory has been lifted. If you have questions, please call the Environmental Services department at 1-800-665-1636 during regular office hours.
