Public input to help determine future of solid waste management in the region
The first stage of a two-year review of solid waste management in the Cariboo Regional District is coming to a close, but there is still a week left to share your ideas around garbage and recycling. Throughout June Cariboo residents and property owners have been invited to share their thoughts on the direction the region should take to manage its solid waste over the next decade -- via six online public meetings and a survey. With only a few days left to participate in the survey, the Regional District is encouraging residents and property owners who have not yet done so, to visit cariboord.ca/talklesstrash to share their thoughts and priorities for solid waste management in the Cariboo.
“Hearing from our residents and property owners gives us the information we need to address concerns and tailor our programs for success,” says CRD Solid Waste Management Committee Chair and Area G Director Al Richmond. “That feedback is essential to ensure the updated plan meets the needs of our region.”
Tera Grady, Supervisor of Solid Waste Management for the Cariboo Regional District is hoping the last week of the survey will see an increase in responses from Quesnel and the North Cariboo.
“Feedback from every area of the region is important to the Solid Waste Management Plan update. Currently we have more responses from South and Central Cariboo residents than we do from residents in and around Quesnel. More participation from North Cariboo residents will ensure the update reflects the interests and needs of every area of the region.”
The survey results will provide the Region with guidance on solid waste management options to consider for feasibility. As an incentive to fill out the survey, ten $100 gift cards will be awarded to residential and business participants!
When the initial phase of consultation is completed and future options have been investigated, Cariboo residents will be invited to provide feedback on their preferred options in a second survey evaluating the feasibility and cost of new solid waste diversion.
