In general, you can visit the Cariboo Regional District web site without telling us who you are or revealing any personal information about yourself.

When a visitor to the Cariboo Regional District's web site decides to sign up for one of our services (Agendas, Minutes, Newsletters, Surveys, etc.), we request individually identifiable information such as your name, mailing address and / or e-mail address. This information will remain confidential and will only be used to support your relationship with the Cariboo Regional District.

Whenever we request the identity of a visitor, we will clearly indicate the purpose of the inquiry before the information is requested. We maintain a strict 'No Spam' policy, which means we do not intend to sell, rent or otherwise divulge your personal and private information to a third party. In addition, the Cariboo Regional District will not send you e-mail that you have not requested.

Whenever the Cariboo Regional District collects personal information, we will make an effort to include a link to this Privacy Policy from that page.

Privacy of Children

• No personally identifiable information (online or offline) is knowingly requested of visitors under 13 years of age;
• Visitors under 13 years of age may not register for services provided by the Cariboo Regional District web site on their own;
• No personal information concerning visitors under 13 years of age will knowingly be shared with third parties;
• The Cariboo Regional District web site will not give children the ability to publicly post or otherwise distribute personally identifiable contact information.

The Cariboo Regional District does not currently have services for children under 13 years of age. If a child wants to use our services, the children's parent or guardian must register for our services and participate with the child.

The Cariboo Regional District recognizes that young people need special safeguards and privacy protection. We understand that they may not understand all the provisions of our policy or be able to make thoughtful decisions about the choices that are made available to our adult users. We urge all parents to participate in their children's exploration of the Internet and any online services, and to teach their children about the importance of protecting their personal information while online.

We do our best to maintain the accuracy of the personal information you supply to us. If you would like to review any personal information we have retained about you in our database, please send us an e-mail request.

At your request, we will correct personal information about you that you state is erroneous. To request such a correction, please send an e-mail.

The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA), provides the public with access to records and information created and compiled by the public bodies of B.C.

A Freedom of Information (FOI) request is a formal process to ask for copies of the records and personal information about yourself or someone you are responsible for. It is also a way to access general information about non-personal information or records that could be released, in whole or in part, to anyone.

Routine Records

Records may be routine and (not containing personal information or other information not releasable under provincial legislation) and do not require a formal FOI request. If the record you require is listed as a Routine Record (ie: agendas and minutes of open meetings, building permits, bylaws, publications, and policies and procedures, etc.) please contact the appropriate department for access to these types of information. 

Non-routine (Formal) Records

A formal written request is required for access to records which are not routinely available. Please allow 30-business days for the completion of your request. There are occasions where your request may be completed sooner or take longer than 30 days, and may incur fees, depending on the amount of work required.

When a visitor requests a page from within the Cariboo Regional District web site, our web servers automatically recognize that computers' IP address and domain name. Such data is used in the aggregate to help determine general usage patterns and fine tune layout patterns to ensure our site is as 'User Friendly' as possible. This information is not collected or evaluated for individuals and our Web servers do not automatically record e-mail addresses.

Cookie Technology

From time to time, the Cariboo Regional District may send a 'cookie' to your computer. A cookie is a small piece of data that is sent to your browser from a web server and stored on your computer's hard drive. A cookie cannot:

If you register for any service within the Cariboo Regional District network, your account is password protected. The Cariboo Regional District does not share any of the individually identifiable information you may provide with the sites to which the Cariboo Regional District links. We may, however, share aggregate data with such web sites (such as how many people use our site).
