Williams Lake, B.C. – Today, the Cariboo Regional District (CRD) unveiled a new program to help make it easier for rural residents to be located by emergency responders in the event of an emergency. The CRD Street Address Sign Project is now available to all residents of the Cariboo Chilcotin.
The Regional District has been working with local sign companies throughout the region to develop a program for standardized house numbering signs. These signs will enable emergency responders to find a home or business address quickly in the event of an emergency.
“In an emergency, police, fire, and ambulance depend on house numbers to find your home or business as quickly as possible as minutes can mean the difference between life and death,” states CRD Chair Al Richmond. “On many occasions our emergency responders are travelling to remote locations with address signage which is barely legible, if there is a sign at all. This program is an economical option for our residents to ensure they receive the required help or care as quickly as possible in an emergency situation.”
The sign shops have agreed to provide the same signs, at the same price in the interest of public safety. The design resembles a 5” X 12” license plate and includes reflective materials which make it easy to read day or night. The corners of the sign are rounded and features drilled holes in the middle top and bottom for easy mounting.
The price is only $21.50 per plate plus applicable taxes and available through the following participating companies:
