Williams Lake, B.C. – With unstable weather and increased winds expected over the weekend, the Cariboo Regional District (CRD) is not considering downgrades to current evacuation orders at this time. As recommended by the BC Wildfire Service, evacuation orders will remain in place for CRD areas through the weekend and will be reassessed after the predicted weather events.
The anticipated weather will increase fire behaviour on all fires in the Cariboo region. Public safety, wildfire activity and road access are the most important considerations for keeping evacuation orders and alerts in place or issuing new orders or alerts.
The Cariboo Regional District continues to work closely with the BC Wildfire Service to make decisions about evacuation orders and alerts. The BC Wildfire Service monitors current and forecasted fire behaviour and weather and provides recommendations based on these factors.
Residents on evacuation alert are reminded to prepare for the possibility of an evacuation order.
Residents in the Cariboo region are strongly encouraged to register for the Cariboo Chilcotin Emergency Notification System. Register at cariboord.cato receive a text, phone call or email when evacuation alerts and orders are put in place or lifted.
Those who do not have access to a computer can contact the CRD Williams Lake office during business hours at 250-392-3351 to register over the phone.
