New CCRHD Chair and Vice-Chair Elected

At today’s meeting, the CCRHD Board elected Director Bob Simpson as Chair and Director Al Richmond as Vice-Chair of the Cariboo Chilcotin Regional Hospital District for 2018.

Feedback Sought on CCRHD Provisional Budget

The CCRHD Board endorsed its provisional five-year financial plan. Tax requisitions will be maintained at a residential tax rate of $70 per $100,000 of net taxable assessed value for each year of the 2018-2022 Five Year Financial Plan. The CCRHD maintains its debt-free status.

Residents are encouraged to review the documents and provide feedback prior to their final adoption on March 23, 2018. Hard copies of both the CCRHD and CRD budgets are available for viewing at all three CRD offices and in the CRD Branch Libraries in 100 Mile House, Quesnel and Williams Lake. The budgets can also be viewed at cariboord.ca under Services > Finance > Business & Financial Plans.

CCRHD Funds Health Projects in Region

The Hospital District Board approved a 40 per cent funding contribution totaling $143,060 for Northern Health’s Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) and Cardiology Upgrade Project. Read more about the project in the Dec. 15, 2017 agenda HERE

Wildfire & Recovery Presentations

The Cariboo Regional District Board heard two presentations regarding the 2017 wildfires and recovery efforts. Jeff Kelly of Safeguard Training gave a presentation on effective community wildfire preparedness, planning and response plans.

Albert Nussbaum, from the Forest Analysis and Inventory Branch of the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development, provided a detailed update on fire recovery progress, Annual Allowable Cut determinations and the resulting impact from this summer's wildfires.

McLeese Lake Hall Upgrades Funded

The Board of Directors approved up to $4,700 from the 2018 Community Halls Improvements envelope of the Community Works Fund for the McLeese Lake Recreation Commission Society. The funding will be used to improve the electric furnace and install two wireless thermostat units at the McLeese Lake Community Hall.

Canadian Red Cross Update

Three representatives from the Canadian Red Cross shared with CRD Board about their recovery efforts to date after the 2017 wildfires and their funding programs.

Red Cross has active support centres in Williams Lake and 100 Mile House. Organizations should consider applying to the Community Partnerships Program for funding towards welcome home events, mental health support, traditional food and outstanding fire season expenses. The Support to Small Business program is in Phase Two and businesses are encouraged to apply; a third phase is also in development. Additional programs are in development related to home repair and reconstruction and disaster risk reduction.

Contact Red Cross at 1-800-863-6582 or visit redcross.ca for more information. Residents can also contact the CRD’s Recovery Manager at recovery@cariboord.ca or 1-866-759-4977.

Upgrades Planned for Martin Exeter Hall

The Regional District agreed to partner with the District of 100 Mile House on its BC Rural Dividend grant application for $386,986 to support upgrades to the Martin Exeter Hall in 100 Mile House. Further, the Board endorsed the recommendation from the South Cariboo Joint Committee to allocate $50,000 from the South Cariboo Recreation budget to update the heating system in the hall. Contingent on sufficient reserve funds, the Board also endorsed completing renovations for two handicap accessible washrooms on the main floor and sufficient washrooms on the bottom floor.

Celebrating the CRD’s 50th

2018 marks the Cariboo Regional District’s 50th anniversary. The Board is planning several celebratory events and activities, including birthday parties at all CRD libraries, a photo contest and a float for community events and parades. Look for more details throughout the year as the Regional District commemorates serving the Cariboo region for 50 years.

Grants for Assistance Approved

The Regional District Board approved a Grant for Assistance totaling $1,000 from Electoral Area I for the Baker Creek Community Club towards hall renovations. Further, the Electoral Area Directors endorsed the South Cariboo Grants for Assistance for 2018. Twenty-five grants were approved for a total of $54,100. Central Cariboo Transfer Station Fees

The CRD Board authorized two tipping fee rate increases for the Central Cariboo Transfer Station. The first increase will come into effect on June 8, 2018, and the second on January 4, 2019. The update will increase tipping fees 10 to 15 per cent (depending on waste type) and reduce the free residential weight allowance by approximately 50 per cent on each effective date. These changes are a result of increased operating costs and this revenue will offset that increase.
