CCRHD Funds West Chilcotin Health Project

The Cariboo Chilcotin Regional Hospital District (CCRHD) Board agreed to provide the West Chilcotin Health Care Society (WCHCS) with a grant for $4,659.20, which will cover 40 per cent of the costs to purchase Point of Care Testing equipment for the health centre.

The CCRHD Directors also considered the Society’s request for funding towards the costs of initial planning requirements for a proposed new West Chilcotin Health Centre in Tatla Lake. The Board stated they would be happy to help with the funding once the project is approved by Interior Health.

Grants for Assistance Approved

The Cariboo Regional District (CRD) Board approved the following grants:

  • $1,000 for the Miocene Community Club from the Electoral Area F Grants for Assistance fund towards the costs of a surveillance system;
  • $1,000 from Area F to offset the costs of the Likely & District Volunteer Fire Department’s oxygen tanks;
  • $500 from Area L to the Mountain Spruce Community Centre Society to assist with their annual fishing derby on Aug. 4, 2018;
  • $1,000 from Area D for the Wildwood Recreation and Community Association towards an event recognizing Wildwood Volunteer Fire Department Chief Randy Worsley’s 30 years of service to the department;
  • $1,000 in funding from Electoral Areas D, E, F, G and H towards the Williams Lake’s Women’s Contact Society’s two day “Breaking the Silence” conference in October 2018; and
  • $1,000 from Area D to the Tyee Lake Community Association for their Annual General Meeting and picnic in July 2018.

Please note: Grants for Assistance typically approved through the year-round intake will not be approved between July 3 and October 20, 2018, due to the general elections taking place on October 20. Review of Wildfire Recommendations Continues

The CRD’s Emergency Preparedness Committee continues to meet regularly to review, prioritize and discuss the 2017 wildfire reports’ recommendations. They are also incorporating the recommendations from the CRD’s report following the 2014 Mount Polley incident.

Out of the recommendations reviewed to date, staff prepared a 2018 action priority list, which the CRD Board received today. This list is under Item 8.7.1 in the June 22 agenda.

Water Services Established for Benjamin Subdivision

The Regional District Directors adopted two bylaws enabling the establishment of the Benjamin Water Service. This new service will provide water services to a 44-home subdivision in the Red Bluff/Dragon Lake area, which is in Electoral Area A. Residents in the area voted favourably for the service’s establishment through a petition process in December 2017. It is anticipated the CRD will assume control of the water system as early as September 2018.

  • July 1, 10 a.m.-3:30p.m., Canada Day celebrations at the 108 Heritage site;
  • July 3, 3-5 p.m., CRD Williams Lake Branch Library;
  • July 11, 2-3:30 p.m., Alexis Creek Community Hall
  • July 14, 4-7 p.m., Forest Grove Community Hall (with hamburgers for sale as a fundraiser for the Forest Grove Ladies Auxiliary)
