Director Ted Armstrong recognized for 40 years of Service
Prior to the board meeting, approximately 30 people gathered on September 20 to recognize and celebrate Director Ted Armstrong for his 40 years of service. Chair Wagner presented him with an engraved wood plaque commemorating his 40 years of service with the CRD, and presented his wife with a bouquet of flowers as a thanks for all she has done to support Ted over the years. Congratulations from MP Todd Doherty, MLA Donna Barnett, and MLA Coralee Oakes were read out and stories were shared.
FLNRORD provided updates on projects in the region
David Van Dolah, District Manager, Stuart Nechako District, and Josh Pressey, Quesnel District, Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development appeared before the Board to provide updates on the connector road project for the West Chilcotin between Ulkatcho and Vanderhoof, as well as the Kluskus Road connector project.
CCRHD continues to support recruitment and retention efforts in the region
The CCRHD Recruitment and Retention Fund assists the health authorities and communities within the regional district in their efforts to recruit and retain medical professionals and support staff, as well as to provide a contribution to the Northern Medical Program Trust. At today’s CCRHD board meeting, the board committed to provide $30 000 to the Northern Medical Trust annually for the next three years as well as increasing the CCRHD Recruitment Fund by $5000 to $35 000 annually in each of the south, central and north areas.
Community Works Funding Allocated
Horsefly Community Hall
The board approved a Community Works funding grant application for up to $10,000 to the Horsefly Community Hall to drill a new well and improve their water system.
Likely – Cedar City Museum energy efficiency upgrades
A Community Works funding grant application for up to $6,000 from the Likely and District Chamber of Commerce was approved for energy efficiency works at the Cedar City Museum in Likely. The works will include replacing five heaters in the museum with five thermostatically controlled electric heaters.
Economic Development Funds Allocated
Cariboo Woodlot Association AGM
The Cariboo Woodlot Association is hosting the Federation of BC Woodlot Associations and Woodlot Product Development Council Annual General Meeting and Conference, in Williams Lake October 12-14, 2018. The $250 sponsorship was allocated to the Electoral Area D and F Economic Development Functions.
Horsefly Outdoor Rink refurbishments
A funding support request for $10,000 from the Horsefly Board of Trade to refurbish the outdoor rink was approved at today’s CRD board meeting. These funds will be allocated from the Area F Economic Development fund. The rink provides for various recreational activities and hosts many community events and these funds will be used towards resurface the rink.
Funding Sought for Trail Development in the region
The CRD will be submitting an application to the Northern Development Initiative Trust for $30,000 in funding from the Cariboo- Chilcotin/Lillooet Regional Development Account for development of low mobility trails at sites in the Chilcotin and central Cariboo to be done in 2019. The Regional District has embraced the development of an accessible trails network in the Cariboo Chilcotin to increase outdoor wilderness recreation opportunities for people of all mobility levels and to create a niche market to help diversify the local economy.
