CCRHD Funds Quesnel Healthcare Projects

The Cariboo Chilcotin Regional Hospital District approved funding to support Northern Health’s upcoming building integrity projects at G.R. Baker hospital and Dunrovin Park Lodge. The CCRHD is providing a total of $85,332 divided into equal payments in 2019 through 2022.

This represents 40 per cent of the total costs for the proposed projects, which includes an air conditioning unit and kitchen fire suppression system for G.R. Baker Hospital and roof and fire alarm system upgrades at the Dunrovin Park Lodge among other projects.

New Lac La Hache OCP Adopted

The updated Lac La Hache official community plan (OCP) was adopted by the Cariboo Regional District Board of Directors. Following public consultation throughout 2016 to 2017, the draft OCP was circulated to all Advisory Planning Committee members, legal consultants and provincial agencies. Staff received comments from the agencies, revised the OCPs to address the comments and presented the final version at a public hearing. View the full OCP at cariboord.ca.

Board Supports NDIT Grant Request

The Forest Grove & District Recreation Society is submitting a funding application to Northern Development Initiative Trust (NDIT) for $30,000 towards building improvements for the Forest Grove Community Hall. As part of the application process, the Regional District Directors reviewed the request and will be providing a letter of support.

2019 Board Meeting Schedule

The Regional District has set the 2019 schedule for CRD and CCRHD board meetings. The dates will be added to the event calendar on the CRD website. All board meetings are open to the public and are typically held at the CRD boardroom in Williams Lake (180 North Third Ave.). There are also two Board on the Road events planned for 2019 where the Board will hold the board meeting in a different community. More details on the locations will be announced in the coming months.

CRD FireSmart Policy Considered

The CRD Board has directed staff to draft a FireSmart policy for use in the rezoning application process. With the increased impact from wildfires in the region, the policy would encourage people building new residences to use FireSmart principles. FireSmart principles have a proven track record of increasing the chances of saving a person’s home in case of a wildfire.

A policy will be drafted and brought back to the Board for further discussion before being finalized and adopted. Learn more about FireSmart at gov.bc.ca/firesmart.

General Election on Oct. 20

There are two opportunities remaining to vote in the CRD general election. Eligible voters are encouraged to come out and vote in the next advance voting opportunity on Monday, Oct. 15 or on general voting day, Oct. 20, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Don’t forget to bring two pieces of identification. Find a polling station in your area at cariboord.ca/elections. Unofficial results will be posted when the polls close on Oct. 20 at bc.localelections.ca/results.

The inaugural meeting for the new Regional District Board of Directors will be on Thursday, Nov. 8, starting at 9:30 a.m. in the CRD Boardroom in Williams Lake. At that meeting the Directors will take their oath of office and receive an orientation to the position.
