Chimney Lake Transfer Station Update

The Cariboo Regional District is moving forward with plans to transition the Chimney Lake Transfer Station to an attended site with set hours of operation. This change is needed because the amount of “not accepted” waste being dropped off in the marshalling yard has increased significantly. Evidence shows much of this waste is coming from outside the service area, and having an on-site attendant is the most effective way to prevent this.

As part of the transition, we are asking local residents to share their preferences for operating days and hours. Once the site becomes attended, it will operate an average of 25 hours per week, and community input will help determine the best schedule.

If you live in the Chimney Lake area, please take a moment to complete our short survey (under four minutes): Chimney Lake Hours Survey. Hard-copy surveys are available upon request by calling our office. The survey closes December 20, 2025.

Once attended, the Chimney Lake Transfer Station will continue to offer packaging and paper recycling, and the share shed will remain open. Please note that refundable beverage containers, electronics, used oil, batteries, and other regulated recyclables will not be accepted at this site
