Bouchie Lake Community Wastewater Feasibility Study
Danielle Mielke, P.Eng., presented an update on the Bouchie Lake Community Wastewater Feasibility Study. The Board received a preliminary report summarizing the ongoing analysis of potential wastewater solutions for the community. The study is being conducted to assess technical options, costs, and long-term sustainability for future infrastructure planning.
McLeese Lake Transfer Station
The Board considered a request from Director Forseth to explore the installation of a second waste bin at the McLeese Lake Transfer Station. Staff were in attendance to answer questions and provide additional context regarding the proposal, which is intended to improve service capacity and support growing community use at the site.
Community Futures Cariboo Chilcotin Grant for Assistance
The Board approved a Year-Round Grant for Assistance to Community Futures Cariboo Chilcotin to support the Our Future in Agriculture event. The conference helps agricultural producers connect with programs, information, and each other, while also supporting new entrants to the industry and encouraging succession planning. This will be the second year the event has been held, with Community Futures aiming to make it an annual initiative supporting small and medium-sized agri-businesses across the region.
Forestry Works for BC Society Presentation
The Board received a presentation from the Forestry Works for BC Society, an organization representing over 3,000 individuals and companies working across British Columbia’s forestry sector. The delegation highlighted the industry’s economic and environmental importance, noting that forestry contributes more than $17 billion to BC’s GDP, supports over 100,000 jobs, and operates under some of the world’s strictest environmental standards. The Society encouraged continued collaboration between government and communities to maintain a strong and sustainable forest sector.
BC Energy Regulators Presentation
The Board heard from Garth Thoroughgood, Vice President of Public Trust with BC Energy Regulators, who introduced the organization and outlined its role in developing a regulatory framework for renewable energy projects in British Columbia. The presentation emphasized the importance of public engagement, environmental protection, and consistent oversight as the province transitions to cleaner energy sources.
