Inspections

The goal of building inspection is to ensure:

Health and safety
Accessibility for persons with disabilities
Fire and structural protection of buildings
Energy and water efficiency
Protection of persons and property

Inspections confirm buildings and their systems conform to:

Bylaws
BC Building Code
Other applicable standards

The BC Local Government Act authorizes Regional Districts to regulate in accordance with BC Building code and CRD Building Bylaw No. 4997:

Repair
Demolition

A permit is required for:

Construction
Alteration
Repair
Demolition of a building or structure
Building relocations
Masonry fireplaces
Solid fuel burning appliances
Chimneys
Plumbing systems

When do I need and inspection?

Building inspections are done at different stages of construction in accordance with the BC Building Code and building plans submitted.

Am I in a building inspection area?

In the Cariboo Regional District there are three local service areas which benefit from the building inspection function, namely the Central Cariboo (portions of Area D, Area E and Area F), the North Cariboo (a perimeter area surrounding the City of Quesnel), and the South Cariboo (Electoral Areas G, H and L in the entirety).

When will the inspector be in my area?

All inspection requests are required to give a minimum of 48 hours' notice.

Please allow yourself plenty of time when calling your local office to schedule an inspection.
