Shoreland Management

The CRD is dedicated to protecting water quality at the shorelines and developing with care. The Shoreland Management Policy was developed to reduce environmental impacts of development along lakes and watercourses within the Cariboo Regional District. Consideration of compliance with the policy is triggered by land use planning applications including subdivisionrezoning, and official community plan amendments.

Requirements under this policy may include:

  • Registration of restrictive covenants for riparian area habitat protection under section 219 of the Land Titles Act; and
  • Septic disposal guidelines for properties defined as “shoreland” under the policy. 

Due to increasing development on Quesnel and Horsefly lakes shore property, the CRD recognized:

  • The need to create new materials to educate residents and developers about shoreland management
  • To encourage environmentally responsible development
