Strong Relationships, Regional Resilience
Establishing a Framework to Support Meaningfully Built Relationships
Strong relationships help to identify sha red priorities and facilitate finding solutions to known and emerging concerns. Common understanding underpins mutually beneficial services, co-operation, and collaboration.
The following framework serves as a guideline to support decision making and operational activities to realize the Board of Director’s strategic commitments:
Governing & Guiding
- Renewing and reaffirming the CRD's dedication to the principles of reconciliation.
- Participating in community-to-community events to invite ongoing dialogue, build mutual understanding, and to co-develop protocols to guide district staff and contractors as they conduct business activities throughout the region day-to-day.
Reviewing & Developing Policy
- Striving to align current and emerging policies with relevant legislation such as BC DRIPA, UNDRIP, and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s calls-to-action recommendations, as appropriate for regional government and local Indigenous communities.
Business Planning & Budgeting
- Committing the appropriate resources to achieve the region’s relationship building vision as it expands and evolves year-to-year.
Learning & Implementing
- Embracing Indigenous cultural awareness training opportunities, and when available, participating in local training and events to grow our collective understanding to guide further actions toward addressing systemic bias and attitudinal barriers to reconciliation.
The Cariboo Regional District aims to foster a healthy and prosperous region by building and strengthening relationships with First Nations and embracing the principles of reconciliation.
