Board meetings are open to the public to attend and witness the debate and decision-making process in action, except for those portions which are closed to the public pursuant to section 90 of the Community Charter.

People in the audience are not permitted to speak. If a member of the public wishes to address the Board, they may make a request in writing to the Manager of Corporate Services in accordance with the Board’s Procedure Bylaw. If approved, a date/time will be scheduled for the person to address the Board.

For development applications, verbal public comments are limited to public hearings and public information meetings only. This is established through provincial legislation and provincial common law established through the courts over time. As land use decisions of the Board are quasi-judicial in nature, the opportunity for public comments is very formalized in BC. However, the Chair may allow applicants, to present and respond to Board questions up to the point in time where a public hearing is held and adjourned - after which no further presentations or information may be provided to the Board. 

Meeting agendas for Board meetings are published on the Friday before the meeting date. These agendas will include all information being presented to the Board as part of its decision making; however, some agenda items may be published afterwards as Late Items.  

Regional District Board and Regional Hospital District Board meetings are open to the public and can be attended in person at the Board Room at the Williams Lake office.
