Eligible voters are residents and property owners within Electoral Area A.
Eligible Voters – Resident Electors
Each resident elector may cast one vote in the referendum.
A resident elector is a person who is:
-
a Canadian citizen;
-
18 years of age or older on general voting day;
-
a resident of British Columbia for at least six months prior to general voting day;
-
a resident of Electoral Area A; and
-
not disqualified by law from voting in a local election.
Voters will register to vote on the same day they cast their ballot. You will be asked to provide two pieces of identification (at least one with a signature) that confirm both identity and residency.
There is no limit to the number of resident electors who may vote from the same property. Every resident who meets the voting qualifications is entitled to vote.
Eligible Voters – Non-Resident Property Electors
If you do not live in Electoral Area A but own property within the service area, you may be eligible to vote as a non-resident property elector.
A non-resident property elector is a person who is:
-
a Canadian citizen;
-
18 years of age or older on general voting day;
-
a resident of British Columbia for at least six months prior to general voting day;
-
an owner of property in Electoral Area A for at least 30 days prior to general voting day; and
-
not disqualified by law from voting in an election.
Only one non-resident property elector may vote per property, regardless of how many people own the property. If a property has multiple owners, the individual voting must be authorized in writing by a majority of the owners.
There is no need to pre-register. Non-resident property electors will register on the same day they cast their ballot. You will be asked to provide:
-
two pieces of identification (at least one with a signature) to confirm identity;
-
proof of property ownership; and
-
if applicable, written consent from a majority of property owners.
