Natural disasters can strike at any time. It is important to know what to do before you have to act and how to be prepared.

As a property owner it is YOUR responsibility to protect your home and property from damages that could be caused by these natural disasters.

Current evacuation alerts or orders in the Cariboo Regional District.

Have a supply of essentials in your home to last at least 72 hours, in case you have to ‘shelter in place'.

If you must leave your home on short notice, remember to take your emergency ‘grab and go' kit. It should include:

  • Emergency supplies including water and food
  • A first aid kit and
  • Important documents, cash and family identification.

If you are facing evacuation measures due to an imminent or potential disaster:

  • Arrange to stay with relatives or friends
  • Listen to weather forecasts and instructions from local officials, as reception or warming centres may be set up in your community
  • Keep an eye out for neighbours who may be at-risk in severe conditions and

Always follow instructions of the first responder personnel and local emergency officials.

T 9-1-1 is a specialized service designed for people who may be:

  • Deaf
  • Deaf-Blind
  • Hard-of-Hearing
  • Speech-Impaired

It allows registered users to communicate with emergency services via text message.
