Bulk Water Station Opening Rescheduled to Spring 2027

The Cariboo Regional District is advising residents that the opening of the new Canim Lake Bulk Water Station has been postponed to early spring 2027.

The installation and commissioning of the water system have taken longer than anticipated, pushing the project much closer to winter.

Staff have continued working with contractors and suppliers to complete the remaining requirements and open the station in 2026. Despite those efforts, there is no longer sufficient time to put the necessary winter operating safeguards in place and test them before freezing temperatures arrive.

This is the CRD’s first installation of this type of bulk water station, and the commissioning process has proven more complex and time-consuming than originally anticipated. The CRD acknowledges that the original project timeline underestimated the time required to move from construction to full operation.

We recognize that residents were expecting the station to open in 2026 and understand the frustration this delay will cause. Opening before the necessary safeguards are in place could risk damage to the new infrastructure, so the remaining work will be completed over the coming months in preparation for an early spring 2027 opening.

An opening date and information on how to use the station will be shared prior to opening.
