Career Posting - Utilities Operator or Regional Utilities Operator
The Cariboo Regional District (CRD) invites qualified candidates to apply for the full-time Utilities Operator or Regional Utilities Operator position within the Cariboo Regional District. A copy of both job descriptions is attached for reference.
Position Summary: Reporting to the Manager of Utilities or Chief Regional Utilities Operator (or designate), the Utilities Operator plays a critical role within a dedicated team responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient operation, maintenance, and oversight of regional water and wastewater facilities and conveyance systems. The Utilities Operator contributes to safeguarding public health and environmental sustainability, provides mentorship to junior staff, and may temporarily assume the responsibilities of the Regional Operator during their absence. Additionally, the Regional Utilities Operator is also responsible for coordinating activities, providing operational and maintenance services for regional water and sewer utilities, and offering leadership to junior operators. This position emphasizes adherence to safety protocols, policies, and training to ensure efficient and reliable service delivery. The role will extend coverage to all jurisdictions.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in making decisions in the field and in emergency/repair situations. Working knowledge of underground utility systems. The ability to exercise considerable independence of judgement and action in the operation of equipment and during utilities maintenance activities. Training and/or experience in confined space and safe work procedures. Other combinations of relevant education and experience, including applicable red seal trade qualification, may be considered.
Education, Experience and Qualifications Required:
· Utilities Operator Minimum Certifications: Level I in two of the four EOCP (Environmental Operators Certification Program) disciplines. (Refer to the job description for a comprehensive list of qualifications).
· Regional Utilities Operator Minimum Certifications: Level 2 in one EOCP (Environmental Operators Certification Program) discipline and Level 1 in another EOCP discipline. (Refer to the job description for a comprehensive list of qualifications).
· Must possess/maintain a valid Driver’s License.
Wage: This is a full-time BCGEU position. The current wage range is $41.73 - 45.76 per hour dependent on qualifications, plus benefits. A standard 90-day probationary period will apply.
Hours of Work: The incumbent may be required to work a non-standard schedule and unexpected overtime to respond to emergencies and required to participate in the on-call rotation for the Central systems and will be required to cover in the south and north when needed. The position operates Monday - Thursday starting at 7:00 am and ending at 4:15 pm with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. The weekly schedule could develop into rotating regular scheduled shifts, which could include weekend shift work. Should the work schedule change, there will be advance notice prior to implementation. The successful incumbent will be required to be on call after hours on a rotational basis.
Work Site Location: The successful candidate will operate out of the Williams Lake CRD building including coverage for the south Cariboo. Scheduled shifts will be central Cariboo on Monday and Tuesday, and south Cariboo on Wednesday and Thursday. Travel within the regional district is required; the successful applicant must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and must live within 30 minutes of the Williams Lake CRD building.
