South Lakeside Curbside Collection

During the Cariboo Regional District's (CRD) last Solid Waste Management Plan (SWMP) update, curbside garbage and recycling collection services for South Lakeside were identified as a potential new service. As part of the planning process, South Lakeside residents were surveyed about the proposed service, and the feedback demonstrated support for introducing curbside collection.

The CRD's SWMP was approved by the CRD Board in December 2023 and by the Ministry of Environment and Parks in March 2025. Implementation of the plan is now underway, with curbside collection services being introduced to South Lakeside in August 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, this is not an optional service. The CRD is working with Recycle BC so that both garbage and recycling services can be provided. One of Recycle BC’s stipulations is that all homes within designated collection areas are included in the service.

Because curbside collection begins in August 2026, property owners will receive a prorated invoice in October 2026 for the remainder of the year. Beginning in 2027, the annual curbside collection fee will be included with your regular CRD utility bill. The annual cost is approximately $100 per household, with a 10% discount available for bills paid early.

Yes, if your property is zoned for and has a secondary suite, a carriage house, or multiple dwelling (up to a fourplex), additional totes will be supplied upon request by the property owner. Annual bills will reflect the number of totes provided; i.e. if there are two totes you will be billed for two services.

*Provision of garbage tote does not imply CRD authorization or recognition of unauthorized land use or compliance with CRD bylaws.

Collection takes place every Wednesday. Please refer to your collection schedule for holiday changes or service updates.

Garbage will be collected each Wednesday.

No. Please put your tote out the morning of your collection day. This ensures snowplows can clear the streets in the winter and helps prevent attracting wildlife into the neighbourhood.

No, curbside garbage collection will be done with an automated garbage truck, which requires a specialized tote for collection.

No, the CRD secured grant funding to purchase garbage totes; they are the property of the CRD and must remain with the property if you move. Each tote has a serial number for tracking.

Recycle BC is responsible for recycling collection, promotion and education. Recycle BC will provide information with your new recycling containers, and you can visit recyclebc.ca for more information: https://recyclebc.ca/.

Collection will still occur if it snows; however, you are not required to put your tote out every week. If there is a heavy snowfall, and your tote is not full, you are welcome to wait until the following week. Place your tote on the street, or against the curb if present, on level ground at least 1 metre away from recycling containers or other obstacles. Place it so the lid opens towards the street. If you find it in a new location after it’s been emptied; use this location going forward (the driver will leave it where it’s easiest for them to access). Consider placing garbage totes on the opposite side of your driveway from your recycling.

If totes are out by 8 a.m. they should be collected; however, if pick up is missed, and there isn’t room in your tote to last another week, call the CRD at 1-800-665-1636 and ask to speak with the Solid Waste department.

For information on what and where to recycle, contact the Recycling Council of British Columbia who can answer questions specific to your community through the Recyclepedia search, phone, text, chat, or email.

The first Garbage pickup will be Aug 5th 2026

Contact the CRD at 1-800-665-1636 and ask to speak to the Solid Waste Department.  We will schedule to have the extra tote picked up.
